I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I look forward to spending time with all of you this last month of the year 2008.

I had an opportunity to look at and begin correcting your fabulously original Fantasy Islands.  They will be displayed on the wall outside the fifth grade area this coming week. I am certain that everyone will enjoy viewing this creative project.

This week we will begin our Native American Research Project. (NAP) The forms that explain the project will come home on Monday, please have them signed and returned by Friday.  This is an ambitious writing project and we will need a lot of dedicated researchers. The paper will be due the Tuesday we return from winter break, so plan your time well, and try to put forth a good effort every day. Your end product will be amazing, and in

School Patrols
This year, Ms Lee and Mr. Olmsted will be in charge of the sixth grade
patrols.  We, as fifth graders, will have an opportunity to
cover patrol corners several times during the year. As always, this
will be done with a spirit of service in mind and a dedication to
keep our younger students safe while crossing streets.

Our first experience will be during the days that the 6th graders travel for a week to Wolf Ridge Environmental Center.

School Store
The month of September interested students took the School Store test. Qualified students formed teams and will alternate working at the store in the morning, and watch our school community respond to positive
service for them. *****************

The test determined a student's ability to handle money and goods. Those qualified were given an opportunity to work, promote, and
manage the St. Anthony Park School Store. Those who did not qualify, or
choose not to work the first semester, can apply or retake the test the
first week in January.
The store benefits the school in several ways. It provides inexpensive
school supplies to our population of kindergarten through sixth grade
students. It also allows our fifth graders first hand experience in the
management of a small business. Finally, the money earned by the store
goes for camp scholarships, books, classroom projects and several fun
activities throughout the year.

Our store is open daily from 8:55-9:15 AM., and it carries a variety of
pencils, notebooks, sharpeners, pens, tools for learning, and a few
novelty items. The prices of these items range from $.10 to $2.00, and
the inventory is updated often by different team orders.
