Dec. 19 Last day of class before Winter Break.  Winter Break is Dec. 22-Jan. 2.

Dear Parents,
It hardly seems possible that it is a mere three weeks until the Winter Break. It is beginning to look and feel like winter.  Brrrrrrrrr!
Thanks to Miki and Beth for  volunteering on our math game day last

week.  We appreciate your time and willingness to assist us.
I will be dropping off the troop donation boxes at Maplewood Mall on Saturday, December 6.  Thank you for your support in making this such a worthwhile project for our class.  As I write this, it appears that we will have collected about ten boxes of items for the soldiers or their families.  The students clearly understand the joy that  comes with giving.

Language Arts
Great Books will continue this week.  We took a break on the Thanksgiving week but we are back to our regular Monday or Friday schedule.  We are now reading the book Stone Fox.  Our spelling work will come from this story.
Our third spelling activity will be Work Making.  We will start reading in our December genre which

is adventure.  The children were able to select a book from the public library last week.   We have now become familiar with all our Word Master words.  We will play games and do activities to prepare for the first competition

Math
The Unit Three and Four tests will be sent home this week.  We will be starting Unit Five.  In this unit your child will begin to multiply using 1-and 2-digit numbers.  Our first lessons include work with extended multiplication facts, estimating sums, estimating products, and partial products multiplication.

Social Studies
Our regional studies now take us to the Southeast.  We will study states, capitals, resources, geography, and agriculture of the Southeast.
Have a great week!
