2008 - 2009 Program
Some children seem to be born goal-oriented and others need some
motivation for a new way of reading more books. This plan has levels to
be achieved combined with public recognition for each goal attained.
Book choice is to be at the skill and interest level of your child.
Together, you may pick any books they like at their reading level. If
you are unsure, we will be glad to discuss your child's reading level
and what would be appropriate. The object is for each child to work
towards a goal - either numbers of books or numbers of pages read, and
to round the bases with families.
Families sign a simple form
indicating that your child has read an entire book and understands the
content. An oral book discussion focusing on the 5Ws (who, what, where,
why, when and how) to an adult is highly recommended. This program
relies on the Honor System and sportsmanship on the part of adults and
children.
It is important that everyone gets a chance to achieve
the first level of recognition so every student will have motivation to
continue. At the end of the year the number of books and / or the pages
read will be counted for lots of Hurrahs!
Families will be
invited to three 10:00 A.M. Saint Anthony Saints Reading Celebrations:
November , March , and June Awards for the Levels will
be presented.
Information on the first team celebration will be sent
home in November. All Second Grades will ..... Play Ball!
