Greetings Parents, Our first month of school is now completed. I hope the routines and rituals are falling into place for you and the children. We have had one schedule change. Library is now on Thursday and Computer will be Wednesdays. We will arrange a visit to the St. Anthony Public Library later in the month. Your child checked out a book in the animal genre that needs to be returned to the library before that time. We will talk about the deadline at school and some children may choose to bring the books to school and I can drop them off. Students now have their October Reading Log and should be writing three entries for the month. Reading each night is an important part of our reading program.
Our Big River Journey Trip pictures are now posted. Go to our Fourth Grade web page and scroll down to the bottom and you will see the photos. They are an opportunity to see some of the sights and action of the day. We really had a great time and learned a lot. Next Wednesday October 8 is Walk to School Day. We will be doing some activities to promote awareness and support this national event.
Language Arts We will begin working on some Word Wall activities this week. In addition to our regular Spelling work, we will be looking at 10 words a week that are high frequency words that students often have difficulty mastering. Our twenty-word Spelling list will include Homophones this week. The pretest homework assignment seems to be making a positive impact on weekly Spelling scores. We are continuing to add various writing seeds to our Writing notebooks.
Math Math concepts this week include displaying bar graphs, subtraction of multi digit numbers. We will review and take the Chapter Two test. Chapter Three is about Multiplication, Division, Number Sentences and Algebra. It makes a difference that the children are working to master the multiplication facts in advance of Chapter Three.
Social Studies We are continuing to learn mapping skills and understand geographical land and water vocabulary. We will begin using our text this week.
Enjoy the upcoming week!
