 | | | | | | Kenna Sarge in February 2010 | | | | Kenna Sarge | We will have a great time visiting and dancing with Kenna Sarge and the entire second grade for the week of February 22 - 26, 2010!!
These pictures are from last year's residency with her - won't | | We're so glad to have learned this! | we have fun?!?
"I began my dance training on the sidelines of my mother's dance classes. I came to see dance as a part of everyday life - we danced each day, we danced to celebrate, to mourn and | | Kenna brought 3 drums for practice | to express... I have been studying and teaching West African dance ever since. In high school, Hip-Hop entered my life. I help students discover the beauty | | This is hard work! | and traditionof West African drum and dance. I push them to examine the Hip-Hop dance they find so appealing, and to search for its sources in the traditinoal West African dance that we explore. | | Rehersal | I teach traditional African songs and dances in an easygoing, interactive format - all the time giving background cultural information in the form of engaging stories and folktales. Students | | Getting ready to move! | will know the history and movements of at least one traditinoal West African dance and its accompanying rhythm and song. I hope to help students feel the call | | Feel the beat | of the drum in their own souls."
